#131 - Family, Teamwork, and Our Latest Win!
Hey everyone. This week we're celebrating a milestone years in the making — and being honest about the quiet challenge that follows the big storms: staying connected once the crisis passes. A story about a feeding tube finally set aside, and the small victories that keep a partnership close.
Family, Teamwork, and Our Latest Win!
Hey everyone,
This week, we're talking about a paradox many parents face: the subtle, quiet drift that can happen after you've weathered the biggest storms. Life with a family is full of hard-won victories and unexpected setbacks, but sometimes, the hardest challenge isn't the one you saw coming.
Looking back, we’ve certainly been through a lot. As parents to our smart, witty, and endlessly brave little warrior, Alyce, we’ve faced battles we never expected. From day five of her life, Alyce had a feeding tube—a journey no parent ever imagines. But through every hard moment, tear, and quiet victory, we learned to work as a team. We faced what life threw at us, determined not only to care for Alyce but also to care for each other. That strength, born from overcoming a medical battle, is part of our foundation. And today, we want to celebrate a true victory: Alyce has been cleared to eat entirely by mouth, and for the first time since she was born, we’ve finally put the feeding pump aside. If she continues to thrive, we’ll be able to say goodbye to it for good in the months to come.
But recently, the everyday has become a new kind of challenge. Our days are a carefully orchestrated dance of juggling kids, work, and a demanding household. We're masters of logistics and multitasking, providing everything for our little ones. But somewhere in the routine, amidst all the hard work, our connection has started to feel distant—not just as partners, but sometimes even with our friends. We both feel the weight of endless tasks, the stress of crazy jobs (barely time for lunch!), and the struggle to find time for a walk or the gym. Sometimes, in the midst of it all, you might even find yourself wondering if you can finally get around to that random hobby, like checking Facebook Marketplace for a St. Andrew's cross (don't ask!), just to feel like you have a minute to yourselves. It's frustrating to pour so much in, yet feel the core love and respect holding us together straining. Somehow, we still manage this newsletter each week, but often our own well-being takes a backseat.
And that's the strange paradox we're living in: The same love and commitment that got us through the biggest challenges are being tested by the smallest, most constant ones.
But just as we learned to celebrate Alyce's milestones, we're learning to celebrate the small victories in our relationship. The triumph of putting the feeding tube away for good is a powerful reminder that we have the strength and teamwork to get through anything. That same determination can help us navigate a tricky conversation, take a moment for ourselves, or find a way to reconnect.
The hope, solutions, and positive perspectives that got us through the past are what will move us forward. We're choosing to believe that the slow drift doesn't have to be a point of no return. It can be the moment we acknowledge the distance and consciously choose to navigate back towards each other.
Wishing you a week filled with connection, both big and small.
Warmly,
Kat & Damian ❤️
