As we have stepped into 2025 with fresh hopes and dreams, we look back on 2024 with immense gratitude. The saying “it takes a village to raise a child” became our daily truth last year. Alyce’s journey—filled with challenges, triumphs, and joy—was made possible by the unwavering support of her village.
From acts of kindness to shared wisdom, your presence made all the difference. You carried us through tough times, lifted us when we needed strength, and celebrated every beautiful milestone with us. Let’s take a moment to reflect on the year where Alyce’s village truly shined, one season at a time.
Winter: Hope in the Cold
The year began in the hospital, where Alyce faced significant medical challenges. Her strength and spirit never wavered, and neither did the love and care of her village. From prayers and kind words to the tireless efforts of her medical team, we were surrounded by support that carried us through those difficult days.
At the end January, Alyce came home, and our hearts burst with gratitude. Her first Valentine’s Day was a sweet celebration of love as she charmed everyone in her “I Love Dada” suit. The transition home wasn’t without its challenges, but thanks to the kindness of family, friends and neighbours—who offered meals, messages, and a helping hand—we navigated this new chapter with confidence and hope.
Spring: Renewal and Growth
With spring came a sense of renewal. Alyce’s laughter filled our home, and her curiosity began to bloom. Boujee and Dapper embraced their roles as her loyal sidekicks, offering constant companionship and entertainment. Easter was a joyful celebration, with Alyce donning bunny ears while Boujee and Dapper eagerly participated in their own “treat hunt.”
During this time, we leaned heavily on the wisdom of our village. Your visits, messages, and gentle encouragement gave us the strength to settle into a new rhythm. Each act of kindness, no matter how small, reminded us that we were never alone.
Summer: Adventures Begin
As the sun warmed the days, Alyce’s resilience shone even brighter. She experienced her first beach day in June, delighting in her baby float. These moments were a gift, made possible by the encouragement of friends and family who reminded us to embrace life’s simple joys.
August marked a monumental milestone with Alyce’s G-tube surgery. The NG tube that had been part of her journey for so long was finally gone. Her recovery was remarkable, and her newfound energy brought more laughter and joy into our lives. To the medical team and to everyone who surrounded us with care and love during this time—thank you.
Our summer adventures culminated in Alyce’s first camping trip. From giggles in the ‘treehouse’ tent to bug battles and scenic moments, it was a memory we’ll treasure forever. It was your advice, encouragement, and belief in Alyce’s strength that turned this dream into reality.
Fall: Steps Forward, Together
As the leaves turned, so did Alyce’s world—she began crawling! Suddenly, our home transformed into her playground, and Boujee and Dapper watched her newfound mobility with a mix of bemusement and delight.
Halloween brought laughter and magic as Alyce became a tiny witch alongside her Frenchie witch princess Boujee and skunk Dapper. Her village celebrated alongside us, with friends and family making this season one of warmth and joy.
This time of growth also brought new routines, as Kat returned to work. It was bittersweet, but thanks to the care of our amazing nanny and the support of colleagues, mentors, and friends, the transition was smoother than we could have imagined.
Winter: A Festive Finale
The year ended with celebrations that reflected the love surrounding Alyce. Her first birthday and Christmas were magical, filled with laughter, sparkling lights, and the warmth of family and friends. Grandparents traveled to be with us, and friends near and far sent thoughtful messages that reminded us just how cherished Alyce is.
To everyone who supported us in countless ways throughout 2024—thank you. Alyce’s milestones, her laughter, and her unbreakable spirit are a testament to the strength of her village.
