#128 - The Weight of the World (and Work)
Hello Vilhelmians. This week is about the loads we insist on carrying alone — at work and at home — and why asking for help is courage, not weakness. Plus, a very overdue summer dispatch from two Frenchies living la dolce vita.
The Weight of the World (and Work)
This week, I witnessed a powerful reminder about how we confront challenges—at work and beyond. I saw someone become overwhelmed by the sheer scale of a problem at work, yet instead of reaching out, they struggled in silence. By trying to carry the burden alone, the issue only grew more complicated.
We often talk about “critical thinking”—the importance of seeing both the forest and the trees. But the truth is, no matter how sharp our problem-solving skills are, real progress comes from open dialogue. Pride, fear, and self-worth sometimes keep us silent until a crisis erupts. It made me wonder: Why do we insist on carrying loads that are clearly too heavy to bear alone?
Recently, I faced a challenge that felt bigger than me. Instead of letting pride get in the way, I reached out. I shared my limitations honestly, choosing transparency over isolation. This experience reinforced for me that asking for help isn't weakness; it’s a courageous step toward a real solution.
What stood out in the initial situation was how the person’s insistence on having things “under control” hid the problem—until it spiraled and unjustly affected many more people. Sometimes, only a crisis can force us to look beyond ourselves. It’s a stark reminder: acknowledging how our actions (or inactions) touch those around us isn’t just important—it’s essential.
People often see me as strong, confident—maybe even a bit arrogant. But when I’m wrong, I admit it. My mother used to say, “If you know you’re in trouble, own up right away and move on.” That wisdom has stuck with me: the sooner we move past denial and understand what we can and cannot control, the sooner we can seek real solutions. This isn't to say I'm perfect or have all the answers; like everyone else, I'm constantly learning and making mistakes. Growth is a lifelong journey for all of us.
** Lessons Learned
------------------------------------------------------------
* Don’t Suffer in Silence: When you’re overwhelmed, speak up. Your colleagues, family, and friends are resources; reaching out is good judgment, not a shortcoming.
* Embrace Transparency: Be upfront about challenges and limitations. Early honesty keeps small problems from becoming major crises.
* Take Responsibility: What we do ripples outward. Owning your role in a problem builds trust and opens the door to solutions—even if it means admitting something is beyond your capacity.
* Let Crises Clarify: Difficult moments reveal the truth. They create space for growth—individually and as a team.
As Maya Angelou wisely said, “When you know better, you do better.”
** Teaching the Next Generation
------------------------------------------------------------
These aren’t just lessons for work—they’re values I want to pass on to my daughter. Even at so young an age, she’s already taught me so much about patience, humility, and the power of a helping hand. It's incredible to watch my little one’s brain working and her starting to push our limits. It’s amazing to watch her curiosity bloom, see her test boundaries, and realize that learning to navigate challenges—and sometimes to ask for help—is already woven into her experience.
I hope that as she grows, she’ll know strength doesn’t mean carrying every load by herself—it means knowing when to trust others and ask for help. I try to show her, even now, that it’s okay not to have all the answers, okay to reach out, and okay to be honest about what you’re feeling. My greatest wish is for her to understand that real courage lies in honesty and that mistakes aren’t failures, but openings for growth.
Asking for help should never be a sign of failure. It’s how we become better teammates, leaders, parents—and people. By sharing, supporting, and learning from each other, we can tackle even the toughest challenges, both at work and at home.

Summer Fun with Boujee and Dapper: French Bulldog Style!
Oh là là, les amis! It’s been way too long since we’ve shared our adventures with you. But you know, summer has been so delightful that we had to take a little break from the computer. Who needs emails and typing when you’re living la dolce vita, right? And what a summer it’s been so far!
Since Boujee's little hospital vacation (which, by the way, was more un petit peu dramatic than necessary, but we’ll forgive her), she’s been living her best life on a new low-fat diet. Oui, yes, we said low-fat... and you know what? It’s not as bad as it sounds. A couple of weeks into it, and she’s loving her new dry food. Honestly, if we didn’t know better, we might think it’s a bowl of Kellogg’s! Imagine this: crunchy bites with a splash of water, and voilà! We’re ready for breakfast. Magnifique!
Now, here’s the twist—because Dapper is nothing if not a devoted complice—he’s decided to join Boujee on her new diet. Yes, quelle surprise! In the name of solidarity, he’s hopped on the low-fat train, too. It’s like a French fashion trend—once Boujee sets the pace, we all follow. And honestly, we can’t complain. The food smells like cereal and tastes like... well, a bowl of yummy dreams. We’re practically parfait!
But wait—let’s get to the fun part. With all the adventures we’ve been having, who has time to write blog posts? Between Auntie’s visits (where we lounge in luxury), playdates with Murdogue (who’s basically our cousin in spirit), and running wild with Alyce, it’s been a non-stop fiesta.
We chase squirrels, we roll in the grass, we pretend to nap just so we can get extra belly rubs from our humans (shhh, it’s a trick, don’t tell them). Alyce is loving every second of it, and so are we. Nothing beats a summer of fun, food, and Frenchie mischief.
So, as you can see, we’ve been very busy, and we’re living life like true French bulldogs—full of love, mischief, and plenty of belle vie moments.
But don't worry, we’ll be back soon enough to share more tales of our adventures. Until then, we’ll be out in the sun, basking like the frenchiest dogs around.
À bientôt... or as we say here in Frenchie-land, “More snacks, please!” 🐾❤️
